I have been heavily involved within the bodybuilding industry for around 10 years, allowing me to develop an advanced understanding of the human anatomy, bio-mechanics, injury prevention and a trained eye for correct posture.  As well as being a natural figure bodybuilding champion myself, I have coached athletes to compete in bodybuilding shows amongst various criterias, all resulting in multiple top 3 placings.

The contrast in coaching individuals within both extreme competitive sports and rehabilitation has provided me with a diverse skill set that's proven to be conducive towards supporting complex cases through personal training.

Professional background

I qualified with an instructor, personal trainer and business management level 3 diploma in 2021 and soon after I began coaching competitive athletes and lifestyle clients whilst supervising the gym at Tops fitness & rehabilitation.

My work had been acknowledged by our physiotherapy team and I began receiving referrals for both musculoskeletal and neurological physiotherapy patients at our facility.

This is when I started developing the foundations of my skill set and knowledge to instruct and programme training for rehabilitation sessions, whilst working alongside the physiotherapist team, receiving client documents, report handovers, shadowing physiotherapy sessions and learning how to write client reports, programming and notes.

In 2023 I decided to continue my field of work independently as BGC Rehabilitation and build my own rehabilitation business, where I deliver 1-1 training sessions in a gym facility based in West Yorkshire.

I have been helping rehabilitation clients that have long term and life long conditions, amputees, spinal cord injury, stroke patients and various disabilities and injuries both neurological and musculoskeletal.

I have worked with clients ranging from ages between 15 - 75, providing client updates and reports for the clients multidisciplinary team, case managers, solicitors and other therapists if requested, bringing a team of professionals together to achieve the most optimal outcome for the client during their rehabilitation journey.

Since starting up in the rehabilitation industry, to further my knowledge and excel my skills I have attended multiple clinics and rehabilitation centres across the country  to shadow other professionals to learn about managing different cases, protocols and approaches with programming, as well as attending rehabilitation events, conferences, CPD courses, open days, webinars and clinic based prosthetic training.

MOBILITY & BALANCE

HOME TRAVEL / GYM FACILITY

CLIENT REPORTS

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

INDEPENDENT EXERCISE
PROGRAMMING

Mobility and balance exercises will involve movement using body weight, props to assist stability and in some cases moving onto external loading, using bands or free weights to create more range of motion, flexibility and stability,

Rehabilitation training can be provided either within the facility I am based at in Wakefield, if the client is unable to travel, training can also take place within their home environment for clients based in the Yorkshire & humber region.

I write client reports upon request from case management and solicitors and therapists to document client progression and maintain frequent, ongoing updates, plans and adaptations throughout the rehabilitation training.

Strength and conditioning  can be a combination of exercises ranging from free weights, resistance machines, banded and body weight variations, circuits, and cardiovascular training.

In addition to improving the clients independence and depending on their stages of rehabilitation, training programmes designed to complete outside of 1-1 sessions are available if requested.

Views & values

 VIEWS & VALUES

Bespoke, client focused planning & strategies

 Transferrable skills
development

A client's training programme is not solely deigned for performance in the gym, but to incorporate movements that transition into day to day living to build their overall  independence and confidence with daily tasks and activities.

Sessions can be aligned to the client's ambitions and motives, whether this is  returning to a specific sport, hobby, activity, interest or wanting to embark on a new skill during their rehabilitation journey to gain more purpose and direction with training programming.

Returning to/ or beginning new
interests & hobbies

It's a lifestyle choice,
not an appointment

The sessions are delivered and planned with the intention of making the client feel less like they are attending an appointment and instead view this as an opportunity and outlet  where they can have their own input and dictations during their session.

Decreasing device dilemmas

Medical devices and technology required for complex cases can lead to dysfunctional movement patterns, compensating posture, repetitive strains and muscular imbalances that can be addressed and reversed through physical exercise.

CLIENT OUTCOMES

Complex distal tibia and ankle injury

unnamed (7)_edited_edited.jpg

The clients injury occurred in 2018, since then his mobility and range of motion in the foot and ankle have been limited, resulting in dysfunctional movement patterns, imbalances and development of chronic pains in various locations of the body.

After starting personal training in may 2022, 6 months later, the clients strength and stability had improved enough to begin introducing compound exercises and unilateral movements.
As photographed above performing split squats, props were required to support ankle range and balance.

Early 2023, the client is able to squat using additional weight with full range of motion without the heels lifting from the floor, no back pain and able to maintain correct posture and technique throughout the movement.
Their step count was previously averaging 2,000, currently the client is reaching 15,000 + steps in a day.

Since the accident, the client has lacked confidence in walking with their prosthetic leg.
Distributing weight onto the prosthetic was evidently a struggle, leading them to compromise by leaning to the opposite side and reoccurring circumduction of  the prosthetic with their gait pattern

Unilateral and balance exercises are programmed to improve weight distribution, gait pattern and imbalances.
We would opt for wheel chair use if the prosthetic caused discomfort.
Since November 2022, the client has attended two 1 hour sessions per week.

April - May 2023, the client has improved their gait pattern and gained the confidence to walk without the assistance of their walking stick.

GET A HEAD START & BOOK YOUR CALL!

  • INITIAL PHONE CALL

An initial phone call will take place to discuss the case and the individual's background. Whether this be with the referrer or the individual themselves if they are not case managed and self funded.

This phone call will cover arranging session times and dates, costs, programme and training options, duration and any additional information that may be required.

  •  DOCUMENTS & INFORMATION

After the phone call, a PAR - Q form, Terms and conditions and initial invoice will be sent over prior to the sessions commencing, which require the client signatures and payments to be transferred prior to the sessions taking place.

  • 1-1 CONSULTATION / Q&A's (OPTIONAL)

Once everything is signed and sent across, it is optional to have a 1-1 consultation either over zoom or meeting at a local cafe, this is a great opportunity for individuals who have little experience in a gym and would like further clarity and information about gyms and exercising  before stepping foot in an unfamiliar environment and also an opportunity to ask additional questions and meet myself in person/ virtually before starting any physical exercise and well-being improvements.

  • SET UP & SESSION PROGRAMMING

After everything has been discussed, sessions can begin in the following week to allow enough time for session programming and any planning in advance to be prepared.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

GARY HARTLEY

" I had a motorcycle accident which left me paralysed from my chest down.

I started with Bethany, the personal trainer early in the year of 2022 to improve my upper body strength and help with my balance which is a lot better thanks to your support I would recommend your services to anyone who has a injury and needs help to get better and strengthen their muscles. "

D.H

“I started training with Bethany back in 2021, just once a week to get me back on track after some issues with a shoulder injury.

I enjoyed the sessions and it helped me in all areas of strength in general so I kept it up and I still see her now.

As a wheelchair user (T4 injury) my upper body is overworked so I have a lot of aches and pains some days, Bethany excels at finding ways around these to allow us to still complete the session.

Since starting with Beth my all round strength has improved greatly along with my general balance too, I would recommend anyone wanting to improve their fitness and strength whatever their ability in any way
to speak to her about training."

A.W

"I started working with Bethany to improve my strength and coordination, as I struggled with this due to my neurological condition and autism.
Since following Bethany's guidance, I've been surprised to find this helping me  gain confidence in going out more to see new places and meet people.
I have more self-belief and independence inside and outside of the gym."

JENNIE DOLAN

"I have know  Beth a couple of years now.
I am 73 year old woman with a few health issues such as stroke and irregular heartbeat.
Beth  has been making me a gym programme towards helping me feel more confident and agile. Beth always has giving me encouragement to go further and help my physical state.
I would recommend Beth as she is professional and a lovely young lady and also very knowledgeable."
